Embodied Expression

Therapeutic Wonder

Sensing and Acting: Becoming who we are in the world

In this 3 hour workshop, we will begin to explore ourselves from the nervous system, the system that is a means of communication and connection, how we know ourselves to be whole. With over 450 billion cells, it is through the nervous system that we act, perceive, respond and regulate ourselves in relationship to our environment.

As with all systems of the body and learning, what we learn is never lost, but is encoded in our here and now being. By focusing on the nervous system, we become conscious of how we respond, how we act, how we perceive, and how we regulate to wake up our ability to actively choose. The nervous system tells us we have agency, we are shaped and we shape the world around us.

Through embodied inquiry and experimentation, Sensing and Acting: Becoming who we are in the world is an invitation to pause auto-pilot mode, and connect to the embodied wisdom and creativity of nervous system.

‘Perceiving is about relating personally to the processes of the inner and outer environment, and it involves choice. In action we align our perceptions with our attention, desire, and intention.’
Linda Hartley

Why this workshop matters
When we can feel our inner world more clearly, we gain more choice in how to be in our outer world so we can be less reactive, more responsive. A felt knowledge of being at home in our bodies and on earth. Research has shown that those with an accurate felt sense of their bodies are better to able to self-regulate.

In this workshop we’ll explore the central nervous system, including the autonomic nervous system and sensory nervous system. Featuring Yoga, pranayama, and creative movement, this experiential workshop is for practitioners with a background in Yoga, dance, or/and other movement practices.
